Environment
After consultation with parish residents and stakeholders, the Group's remit is to develop policies with the objective of improving the conservation and enhancing the environment of the Parish as the preservation of natural resources are important principles of sustainability.
The environment of the Parish of Deddington is of high quality and it is important to produce Neighbourhood Plan policies that protect and enhance this
environment.
The Group comprises: Richard Broadbent, Simon Boulter, Rosie Burland, Dan Desmond, Annette Murphy, Fiona Smith.
To gather evidence the Group has been involved with the following:
Public ‘drop-in’ event on 21-23 November 2013 - the Environment Topic Group put forward questions relating to: protection of views around the villages, the Church and Castle Grounds; extra activities on green spaces around the villages; how to best protect buildings and green spaces; protection of the conservation area; flora and fauna; wildlife habits; reducing the carbon footprint of the Parish; drainage, water supply and sewage.
There were 269 comments to 9 questions.
Relevant stakeholders were contacted and those that responded include:
Cherwell District Council Conservation Officer
English Heritage in relation to the Scheduled Ancient Monument site of Deddington Castle.
Friends of Castle Grounds
Deddington Charity Estates
Deddington Primary School
Deddington Parish Church
Hempton Church and Hall
Following these consultations, the Environment Group produced 14 questions for inclusion in the parish questionnaire. To obtain as much information as possible, questions included residents views on: protection of green spaces; views around the villages; allotments; landscape features for future developments; utilising green spaces around the villages; the importance of the Conservation area and green spaces around it; activities at the Castle Grounds; Local Heritage Assets Register; Assets of Community Value Register; drainage, water pressure and sewage problems.
The responses to the Environment questions were considered and analysed, draft Environment goals and objectives were then presented for community consultation at a second ‘drop-in’ event.
